About

Now in its 9th year, Light Up a Life is an interfaith programme which seeks to fill the gap left by workers and volunteers going on holiday by placing new volunteers in their stead.

At the heart of Light Up a Life is the belief that nobody should be overlooked or forgotten.

Last year more than 4000 men, women and children were positively impacted by the work of just 1000 volunteers.

This year, let’s make it more!

With 10 days and over 800 activities there’s something fun and meaningful for everyone.

About the activities

Chocolate Drops:
Light up a life this holiday season by taking Cadbury’s chocolate boxes to a variety of hospitals, hospices and day centres around London. Whether you spend time with the recipients or leave the chocolates at reception, this is a great way to make someone smile.
Chocolates MUST be picked up at Tikun at LEAST 24 hours BEFORE drop off. Address: Tikun: 1117 Finchley Road, NW11 0QB. Cars Required.

Make it, Bake it, Buy it:
The men and women of London’s Fire Brigade work tirelessly to ensure our safety. They don’t take time off for festivals or holidays and so here is our chance to say thank you! Show your gratitude by baking* some cookies, making a card, or buying chocolates and delivering it to a station.

*Baking to be done at home

Jewish Care Homes:

Jewish Care provides community homes and services for over 7000 people, including: Holocaust survivors, the elderly and people with disabilities and mental health needs. For Light Up a Life, give your time and volunteer at a Jewish Care home.

GIFT activities for the whole Family:
We have two great family-oriented activities this year. First, you can join our volunteering camp on December 28th as we make decorations and then head over to Jewish Care for a holiday sing-a-long (ages 6-11). Or, you can spend the afternoon of December 29th decorating cupcakes for families in need (ages 8+). No matter what you’re guaranteed fun and meaningful family time!

Help Barnardos Keep Their Services Running:
Barnardos believes in children. They exist to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children, envisioning a future where no child is turned away. This winter you can help ensure that vision stays alive by providing much needed cover and support in their charity shops and offices.

GIFT provides food to almost 2000 people every week. Come on your own – or make it a family affair – and spend time at the warehouse packing food parcels. But wait, the volunteering does not stop there! After the food is packed we need volunteers to drive the packages to their intended location and ensure they get there safely*. Pack and deliver some happiness this holiday season.
