Care for the Community Affected by the Grenfell Tower Fire:

This year we are reaching out to those affected by this tragedy. We have connected with various groups already supporting this community, and have arranged Chocolate Drops, card-making and gift wrapping, with several partner charities. If you are DBS checked, please email info@ligjhtupalife.org.uk for opportunities to offer your skills directly. There is a ‘No Photos’ policy at the Grenfell Assistance Centre, and we ask you to respect this. Whatever you do, you will be helping to uplift this community.

New! Cooking for the Homeless:

We are working with several homeless charities this year, including The Passage, a charity that believes in giving a hand up, not a hand out. To this end, they provide a range of resources and facilities for homeless and vulnerable people, including hot meals. Get stuck in helping serve and clear up breakfast and lunch at their wonderful centre in Victoria, and see first hand the impact that this service has on the community.
Over 18s, DBS Check required. Visit their website here

New! The Felix Project

Like us, this is a charity that supports other charities! The Felix Project takes good quality surplus food, and helps eliminate food poverty by distributing it to charities that would otherwise spend money buying food. Help them keep their warehouses sparkling and tidy, or jump in with a driver and help deliver the goods – moderate lifting involved. Over 18s. Visit their website here

Interfaith Activities:

Another focus for us this year is joining hands with communities of all faiths and none, for meaningful and uplifting volunteering. Whether it’s gift-packing, arts & crafts or cooking, this is a wonderful way for humans to connect for the greater good.

Chocolate Drops:

Light up a life this holiday season by taking Cadbury’s chocolate boxes to a variety of hospitals, hospices and day centres around London. Whether you spend time with the recipients or leave the chocolates at reception, this is a great way to make someone smile.

Instructions for delivery:

  1. Chocolates MUST be picked up from Tikun at LEAST 1 WORKING DAY BEFORE drop off – PLEASE CALL 020 8912 1213 TO CONFIRM. Address: Tikun: 1117 Finchley Road, NW11 0QB. Cars Required
  2. Please stick the labels provided onto the boxes and if you are delivering to a Jewish home, please remove the Oreos bar as they are not certified as Kosher.

Make it, Bake it, Buy it:

The men and women of our public services work tirelessly to ensure our health and safety. They don’t take time off for festivals or holidays and so here is our chance to say thank you! Show your gratitude by baking* some cookies, making a card, or buying chocolates and delivering it to one of our listed venues. Please call on the day to check someone is on site, and please bear in mind that not all the teams may be aware of Light Up A Life – but it’s a great opportunity to tell them about us!

*Baking to be done at home

Facilitate Group Activities with Hestia*:

Hestia works together with adults and children in crisis. They are the largest provider of domestic abuse refuges in London and they provide emotional and practical support to individuals at a time when they are most in need. Help facilitate group sessions at Hestia’s services and spread smiles where they are most needed! Visit their website here

*Some activities require DBS checks

Making Play Dough at Home!

Want to Light Up A Life from home? Collect a play dough making kit from our office in Temple Fortune then make the play dough at home with whomever you like – fun for all the family! When it’s ready, email us (info@lightupalife.org.uk) to arrange to drop it off at our office!

Food Packing and Delivering:

GIFT provides food to almost 2000 people every week. Come on your own – or make it a family affair – and spend time at the warehouse packing food parcels. But wait, the volunteering does not stop there! After the food is packed we need volunteers to drive the packages to their intended location and ensure they get there safely*. Pack and deliver some happiness this holiday season. Visit their website here.

*When you register to deliver food parcels you will be added to a Whatsapp group which will be updated frequently with delivery needs.
